Youtube - another great channel for Reporting Accounts Podcasts.

Your Tube

Our Youtube channel can be found here.

We have been active on Youtube for about 10 years now, as we have moved from business venture to venture, the channel has moved with us, anyway now it features our Reporting Accounts podcasts.

What is great about Youtube is that it has a huge customer base of its own, so even if a user doesn't arrive via a search engine query, they may arrive from an internal Youtube search.  It therefore makes real sense to have our Podcasts showcased via our Youtube channel.

RA Living Pension

This is a video about the concept of a real living pension, its an extension of the concept of a living wage.

In today's podcast our resident financial expert Adrian Lawrence talks about a the living pension, this is a new concept which follows the example of the real living wage but applies to pensions.  The UK has a two tier pension system, the state pension which is fixed and based on a fixed amount for every year worked up to 35 years, the second tier is known as auto enrolment and is contribution based system currently set at 8% of a band of earnings.  5% comes from the employee (4% and 1% tax relief) and 3% from the employer.

French Connection

This company has been in the news as it has received two takeover approaches at the same time, this sounds very positive from a shareholder point of view as their share price had really dropped in 2020.

French Connection rejected a takeover in January 2020 as being too low, that bid was around 40p but since then the high street shopping channel in the UK has been very seriously impacted by the three pandemic lockdowns. The share price has been bombed out as have other companies who operate in the retail, leisure or hospitality sectors. Towards the end of last year 2020, their share price was trading around the 10p level. Now following on from the speculation surrounding retail brands and the actual announcement on Friday of formal takeover approaches, their price has jumped to 25p

Dr Martens

The British bootmaker has been in the news following its successful IPO on the London Stock market.

Their price was set at £3.70 per share at opening they quickly moved to £4.25 and closed at around £4.50 representing a 22% rise on the day, this is a great result given the unsettled time for the UK economy and bodes well for other large floatations due soon including Moonpig plc. The LSE code for Dr Martens is DOCS and its the largest IPO the London market has seen since September 2020.

Moonpig report busiest ever week

Moonpig group plc the recently listed greetings card online retailer reported its strongest ever week over the valentines day period. The company now expects its revenues for the year to 30th April to be around double the £173m it reported in the previous year. The shares rose 2.5% to £4.45 in early trading on Thursday.

The increase in demand saw the "strongest ever trading week in the Group's history" the company said in a brief statement. It shows that the pandemic has had a positive impact on the groups trading as most high street competitors are closed due to the UK's lockdown. What happens once the country re-opens and life returns more to normal remains to be seen. This is still a very positive result for the company.

Please keep visiting our channel as its a great way to find out news and insights into the more than 4.8 million UK companies that we have within our website https://www.reportingaccounts.com

In this Podcast Adrian Lawrence talks about Techpats these are digital nomads who want to settle down longer term, and find a location that works for that reason. Cyprus is proving very popular at the moment, it has a low rate of corporation tax, only 12.5% and its residency rules mean that you can be classed as a resident if you spend 90days a year there. That works well for a digital noman spending 90 days a year in the sunny climate of Cyprus and the rest of the time travelling.

Substack

We have been podcasters since January 2021, its been great fun and really interesting at the same time, we always read the financial press each day, so now the routine is to read the financial press then record a podcast about interesting stories we have picked up in the process. It’s a great use of that time and whilst it takes a few minutes it does give us audio content we can use as part of our marketing

Google Podcasts

In todays podcast Adrian Lawrence talks about how Digital Nomads are settling down for the longer term to become techpats, having enjoyed travelling the world working remotely from their laptop many are now deciding to select sunny low tax countries to work out from on a permanent basis.

Cyprus is very attractive from this perspective as it allows residency rights provided you stay in the country for more than 90 days per year, and a very attractive corporation tax regime of 12.5%.  As its an EU state there are many advantageous in terms of security and stable trade arrangements with the rest of the World.

In today's episode Adrian Lawrence talks about Reporting Account's experience of Podcasting.   As a company we are new to recording podcasts and started for the first time in January 2021.  Our experience has been very positive, and we are tracking the visitors to our site on a daily basis and noting a good number of visitors arrive after listening to one or more of our podcast episodes.

In this episode Adrian Lawrence our resident financial professional talks about the impact that Brexit is having on exporters.   The withdrawl agreement that brought brexit to a close at the end of 2020 was meant to represent a free trade agreement without tariffs and duties.  Many exporters are now finding to their costs that due to the rules of origin goods brought into the UK from outside the EU and then exported to the EU are paying double, once to on import to the UK and then again on import to the EU

Podfollow Magic Link

Sharing podcasts on social media can be difficult, which link should you use? What app has your listener got?

Here at podfollow we're trying to make that all much easier.

Each podfollow link automatically redirects to Apple Podcasts for iOS users, Google Podcasts for Google users and a landing page for people on desktop. It means that people can always play your podcast straight after clicking.

BUT unlike other services, you can claim your podcast, and then choose where all the different users are re-directed. Perhaps you want to send them to your website or a specific app? Claim the podcast and you can do just that.

If you claim your podcast you can also get a free custom URL, so you could be podfollow.com/musicshow - we think these could sound great on your show, and you'll know exactly where you're sending your fans.

Patreon the place for Creators to find their Patrons.

We signed up last month for Patreon is a creators site where members find sponsors to helps support their work, there are all sorts of people on their from artists and musicians to small startup business people like myself trying to build up a business.

You can sign up and then look for sponsors interest to help you.

Our Patreon page can be found https://www.patreon.com/adrianlawrence

The idea is a really good one it is great to think that you can find like minded people from all around the world helping out.

Patreon was co-founded in May 2013 by Sam Yam and musician Jack Conte,[4] who was looking for a way to make a living from his YouTube videos. Together with Sam Yam he developed a platform that allows 'patrons' to pay a set amount of money every time an artist creates a work of art. The company raised $2.1 million in August 2013 from a group of venture capitalists and angel investors. In June 2014, Patreon raised a further $15 million in a series A round led by Danny Rimer of Index Ventures. In January 2016, the company closed on a fresh round of $30 million in a series B round, led by Thrive Capital, which put the total raised for Patreon at $47.1 million.

You can see examples of our posts here https://www.patreon.com/posts/french-group-plc-47233809

They signed up more than 125,000 "patrons" in their first 18 months. In late 2014, the website announced that patrons were sending over $1,000,000 per month to the site's content creators.

Gumroad the creators site

Found a new site today, it seems really strong in terms of authority and reputation so have published there for the first time.

Gumroad is an online platform that facilitates the sale of products by creators directly to consumers. Sahil Lavingia founded the company in 2011 with the intention of making selling as easy as social sharing. Although Lavingia claimed "I don’t think five years ago this could have existed", there have been companies with a similar purpose since 2004, such as PayLoadz, E-junkie, and TradeBit. The company received more than $8 million in funding. Within three years Gumroad had to lay-off most of its staff to stay afloat.
Founder Sahil Lavingia in 2010

https://gumroad.com/aurthor/p/reasons-for-podcast-covering-finance-news

Creators such as authors, comedians, designers, filmmakers, musicians, and software developers use Gumroad to sell products directly to consumers; mostly digital content like albums, comics, ebooks, films, games, music, or tutorials. Gumroad is built as a plug-and-play product that offers payment processing, file hosting and delivery, marketing and communications tools, and consumption experiences for a diverse array of verticals[clarification needed]. Lavingia has stated that his product philosophy is to ask what creators spend their time on making things, and then build features for Gumroad that do those above-mentioned logistics functions for them.[citation needed]

Gumroad's marketplace is decentralized. It was also originally notable for having a lower fee than other commerce platforms (5% + 25¢). The service later changed its fee structure, requiring a monthly hosting fee (USD$10) plus an additional per-transaction charge (3.5% + 30¢).

Buzzsprout great for all podcasting needs

Podcasting

We've been using two hosting providers for our range of podcasts, Anchor and Buzzsprout. Both are good but what we like about Buzzsprout is its network of partners, you publish your podcast with them and it gets syndicated via RSS and appears on a range of other sites at the same time.

A negative is that is uses sub domains which from our experience elswhere don't perform very well compared to a main website, that said its only an issue with buzzsprout and not their partners.

Here are a selection of our recent podcasts so you can get a feel for the sort of work we are producing

French Connection takeover approachs

Doctor Martins successful IPO

MoonPig IPO

There is a lot to be said for the easy of use of their website and that allow pre-rolls to be easily added to the main tracks. Overall we are enjoying their service and will stick with them.

Music sites

Having fun reposting and listening too some of the fav tracks from my youth.  I am using three of the most popular sites for that.

https://www.mixcloud.com/highlandspring/

A good and friendly place where you can meet real people who like the same music as you.

https://soundcloud.com/user-868964379-643853291

Well known and with huge user base

https://adrianlawrence.bandcamp.com/

Seems kinda fund but somewhat dated looking.

What is good about all of these sites is that they let you message and communicate with real people who have the same tastes in music as you do.

Player FM

Another great site, what is good about the podcasting niche is there are so many good places around, which is impressive and encouraging.

https://player.fm/series/adrian-lawrence-podcast

Player FM or PlayerFM is a podcast discovery and cataloguing service which lists podcasts hosted across different podcast publishing sites. It was created by software designer Michael Mahemoff in 2011.

Listen notes

Listen notes is a good name but it sounds better for music tracks than podcasts!  Anyway they cover our episodes so they must be good people!

Listen Notes is the best podcast search engineTM. It's like Google, but for podcasts.
Search the whole Internet's podcasts. Curate your own podcast playlists. Listen on your favorite podcast player apps.

https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/adrian-lawrence-podcast-adrian-w8CugaeDcPA/

They do have a good list showing all episodes though it is somewhat hard to dig around and find everything.

Podchaser

Out of all the podcasting niche websites I've spent time on since January podchaser has the best community of them all, it really makes an effort to draw you in and engage with you, and its members are very active following and liking each other which I really enjoy and appreciate.

https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/adrian-lawrence-podcast-1582152/episodes/reddit-day-traders-take-on-wal-83428148

You can see what I mean if you click around the followers sections, and lists etc.

Podcast addicts

I know how they feel!  Podcasting is addictive that is for sure.

Once the podcast is indexed, you will get a Podcast Addict URL that you can put on your website and share with your listeners.

This url will open your podcast subscription page on the Podcast Addict app when used on a phone, or use your podcast page on Podcast Addict's website

 https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/3212458

In case your podcast wasn't already indexed in the app database, it can take up to 24 hours for the podcast to be available through the app

Tunein podcasts

Tunein is a great name for a podcasting review website!

Its great that we get a small mention at least.

TuneIn is an American audio streaming service delivering live news, radio, sports, music, and podcasts to over 60 million monthly active users. As of 2019, TuneIn has more than 75 million monthly active users.

TuneIn is operated by the company TuneIn Inc. which is based in San Francisco, California. The company was founded by Bill Moore in 2002 as RadioTime in Dallas, Texas. Users can listen to radio on the TuneIn website, use a mobile app, smart speaker, or another supported device.

https://tunein.com/podcasts/Business--Economics-Podcasts/Reporting-Accounts-p1398204/?topicId=160562685

In March 2018, TuneIn launched another premium live audio subscription called "TuneIn Live," which offers play-by-play calls from thousands of live sporting events, plus access to premium news stations, talks shows and other content.

Sticher the media company

Stitcher is a media company that specializes in the creation, distribution, and monetization of podcasts .Stitcher creates original shows through networks such Witness Docs. Stitcher provides ad sales and distribution services to 300+ shows. Stitcher is home to one of the largest podcast listening apps, giving listeners access to hundreds of thousands of podcasts.

https://www.stitcher.com/show/adrian-lawrence-podcast

The Stitcher app is one of the most popular podcast listening apps. Users can listen to, download, and discover podcasts through apps on iOS, Android, the Web, and several vehicle integrations. Stitcher also offers Stitcher Premium, a subscription service that allows listeners to access exclusive ad-free podcasts, which was announced at the end of 2016 and went live early 2017

Google podcasts

Google rules the internet!  But they have been late coming to podcasting ))   They do however now have a great podcasting area of their own.

Google Podcasts is a podcast application developed by Google and released on June 18, 2018 for Android devices.

The old world school of teaching is now completely pass

The old world school of teaching is now completely pass'. Nowadays with the techonology explosion that's currently happening everywhere around the world, classroom education has also come a long way and many schools, colleges, and universities are increasingly incorporating more technology into common classrooms to help the learning process.

In this day and age of mobile phones, ipods, podcasts, web sites, and blackberries, the way we train and teach has to be able keep up by incorporating computers and the use of technology into everyday lesson plans and activities. The main purpose behind integrating technology in the classroom with your teaching is to make the lessons as attractive to students as possible, help them learn lessons fast and stimulate their curiosity about a certain subject.

PCs in the Classroom
Given research dictates that pupils will retain more knowledge when some form of computer based instruction is added to the learning process. They are able to progress through lessons quicker and have a higher rate of retention. Using the internet for online research can also be very useful. Most students are on the internet every day browing websites and searching for things that interest them. If you walk you students through how to use search engines correctly and how to verify that the sources they have are accurate, the internet can become an invaluable learning resource for your classroom.

Multimedia

By incorporating multimedia computer software like powerpoint into lessons, instructors are able to connect and meet the needs of students with both auditory and visual learning styles. Most likely, if you have a PC in your room it will have preinstalled multimedia software included. In addition to using these programs for lessons, you can also allow students to create projects and presentations.

Bringing multimedia into your lessons presents a great chance of pace from the usual chalkboard based lesson or overhead projector. It can bring about increasedcontent being taught.

Interactive Multimedia Ebooks

Ebooks are electronic copies of books that be downloaded to your computer and read online.Combining images, text, audio, and video, ebooks are usually more attractive then the usual printed text and provide opportunities for student interaction. For example, say you are teaching a biology class and need a project for your students. Students love to use technology to create things. You can have them create their own ebooks. Have them research a topic online, download a few ebooks for example and reference, then create their own using images, video, audio, and text if possible.

Video Presentations

Another idea for a fun project is to have students create videos or mini movies as projects. Most students have these capabilities built into their phone, but if not your school should have a video camera for you to use. Have them create 5-15 minute prestations or videos on a topic of your choice.

Other ideas include student podcasts, classroom blogs, or interative classroom forums or websites.

The way we learn is changing and our educatoin and teaching strategies need to constantly change and update to meet the different needs of our students. By using multiple forms of technology in your lessons, you give every student the greatest change to learn at the highest level.

The history of weblogs

When the idea of weblogs was first introduce online, it was an instant phenomenon. Suddenly just about everyone feels the need to create their own space online by writing their thoughts. Then podcasting was introduced -- blogging in audio form. Just like its predecessor, it was an immediate hit. Today, the latest craze is video blogging.

Just what is a video blog you ask? A video blog or what is commonly referred to as vblog or vlog, can be defined as the posting of a series of videos in a certain website where comments from the audience are encouraged. Although this latest form of web communication is still in its early stages, videobloggers are enthusiastically taken with the idea of posting their video series online.

So why do people use vblogs? Well, most vbloggers take advantage of video blogging in order to make their own mini-programs. With the use of an RSS feed, they can send their new episodes to a wide audience automatically. Meanwhile, others simply enjoy experimenting with the new technology.

You might wonder, why bother with video blogs when you can already express your thoughts with just a regular blog. Well here's another way to look at it. When you're writing a blog, especially when it's about a topic you feel so strongly about, haven't you ever wished that your readers could see your expressions so that they could fully comprehend your feelings? Well, that's what vblog offers that regular blogs cannot. It gives you the chance to fully communicate with your audience, since they can see your facial expressions and hear the tone of your voice.

Moreover, since video blogs are more advanced than any other types of blogs it makes a great tool to deliver exciting content like sports, events, television and the list goes on. With vblogs you can easily share your enthusiasm for your content.

Vblogs also offers its users, particularly those who live away from home, the rare chance of keeping in touch with their friends and family. Think of it as a great new way to share the baby's first steps with his or her grandparents. As for those who dreams about being the next big thing on TV, well this is your chance to shine!

So, how do you start your own video blog? Well, be warned that video blogs are not as simple and easy as regular blogging wherein all you do is type. Since, vblogging is more advance, the process is more complicated. Here you will need a computer that is powerful enough to work with movie programs and of course, a camera that is capable of taking videos and snap shots.

Step one is the easiest, make your digital video on your camera or camcorder. There are various ways you can put your vblog together and since you are not working on a studio you can throw the rules out the window. You are absolutely in control! After you complete your video the next thing you do is to download it to your computer and prepare it for formatting and compressing.

In vblogging, you will be working with different movie programs. The most commonly used programs include iMovie for Mac users and Movie Maker for PC users. Other vbloggers also uses Final Cut Pro and Avid Free DV. Choose one that you are comfortable with. After you have downloaded your movie you can use these programs to make any changes on your video clips such as inserting a new film, creating titles or subtitles, and add background music.

After editing your video, the next step is to compress it. This is the tricky part. You want the movie compressed as much as possible so that the audience can download it quickly. However, if you compress your movie too much then its quality will be less sharp. The key here is balance. Make your video small enough for quick download but make sure it has enough resolution left. You wouldn't want your audience squinting just to figure out what those grainy square-pixilated images are.

Once you are done compressing your video, then you are ready to upload it online. If it is a compressed Quicktime movie, then you can simply place it on your website with a link directly to it (this is very similar as to when you are working on a regular web page). It might also be a good idea to participate in a video blogging community. Just keep in mind that each community have its own set of rules regarding video uploads, so make sure you read this carefully before uploading.

Remember also to read the users agreement carefully. There might be some video blogging sites that have certain restrictions regarding the kind of content you can put up. It is important to know what your chosen video blogging community appreciates and what they frown upon.

Another good tip is once you are done posting your video blog, download it and watch it. Doing so will allow you to see for yourself whether the downloading process is quick enough or still too slow. You can also judge the quality of your own video as well as have the chance to see if there is anything that you might want to change.

Now if you are happy with what you saw then its time to promote it! Set up a link in your email signature line, or post links to it on forums that you usually visited. Creating a video blog is only half of the work; the other one is getting someone to watch it!

There are other things that might help your video blogs gain popularity. For instance to ensure that your vblog will not be lost in the shuffle, it might be a good idea to create some text around it. Moreover, search engines only search text and not video. So if your vblog do not have text then search engines will ignore it. Another great tip is to take advantage of RSS feed. This will allow people to subscribe to your video blog and have it download to their electronic device automatically.

That's about it! You are now on the limelight!
