The old world school of teaching is now completely pass'. Nowadays with
the techonology explosion that's currently happening everywhere around
the world, classroom education has also come a long way and many schools, colleges, and universities are increasingly incorporating more technology into common classrooms to help the learning process.
In this day and age of mobile phones, ipods, podcasts, web sites, and
blackberries, the way we train and teach has to be able keep up by
incorporating computers and the use of technology into everyday lesson
plans and activities. The main purpose behind integrating technology in
the classroom with your teaching is to make the lessons as attractive to
students as possible, help them learn lessons fast and stimulate their
curiosity about a certain subject.
PCs in the Classroom
Given research dictates that pupils will retain more knowledge when some form of computer based instruction
is added to the learning process. They are able to progress through
lessons quicker and have a higher rate of retention. Using the internet
for online research can also be
very useful. Most students are on the internet every day browing
websites and searching for things that interest them. If you walk you
students through how to use search engines correctly and how to verify
that the sources they have are accurate, the internet can become an
invaluable learning resource for your classroom.
Multimedia
By incorporating multimedia computer software like powerpoint into
lessons, instructors are able to connect and meet the needs of students
with both auditory and visual learning styles. Most likely, if you have a
PC in your room it will have preinstalled multimedia software included.
In addition to using these programs for lessons, you can also allow students to create projects and presentations.
Bringing multimedia into your lessons presents a great chance of pace
from the usual chalkboard based lesson or overhead projector. It can
bring about increasedcontent being taught.
Interactive Multimedia Ebooks
Ebooks are electronic copies of books that be downloaded to your computer and read online.Combining
images, text, audio, and video, ebooks are usually more attractive then
the usual printed text and provide opportunities for student
interaction. For example, say you are teaching a biology class
and need a project for your students. Students love to use technology
to create things. You can have them create their own ebooks. Have them
research a topic online, download a few ebooks for example and reference, then create their own using images, video, audio, and text if possible.
Video Presentations
Another idea for a fun project is to have students create videos
or mini movies as projects. Most students have these capabilities built
into their phone, but if not your school should have a video camera for
you to use. Have them create 5-15 minute prestations or videos on a topic of your choice.
Other ideas include student podcasts, classroom blogs, or interative classroom forums or websites.
The way we learn is changing and our educatoin and teaching strategies
need to constantly change and update to meet the different needs of our
students. By using multiple forms of technology in your lessons, you
give every student the greatest change to learn at the highest level.
